Frequently Asked Questions

What is a black box theatre?

Black box theatre is typically a minimalist style of theatre featuring a small performance space, four black walls and a flat floor. The relatively neutral and unadorned nature of the design allows for lighting, sets, costumes and ultimately the performances to shine through above all else. Though Porch Light's performance venue can be considered black box in size and scope, it often expands beyond this experimental style of theatre by featuring a raised stage, audience risers and often more elaborate sets. One of the great things about a black box space is that it can be anything anyone wishes to imagine. The minimalism and intimate nature of it's design allows for the audience to connect most readily to the performers and for the artistry of the production to shine through.

How do I purchase tickets to your shows?

Tickets for most of our Main Stage, Youth and Family Shows, Off the Porch and Special Events can be purchased securely on our website. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover are all accepted. All tickets are held at the door and can be picked up within 30 minutes prior to showtime. Orders may also be placed by phone at (201) 857-3520 (a credit card will be required) or in person at 555 Broad Street, Glen Rock NJ during normal business hours. Please note, that tickets for our children's shows may be released to family and friends of the cast members before going on sale to the general public. See specific shows for ticket sale dates.

I ordered tickets online, will they be mailed to me?

Tickets will be held at the door and can be picked up 30 minutes prior to showtime. An email receipt will be issued once your order is complete. You may bring this to the box office for verification.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Due to limited seating capacity and the high demand for our top quality productions, shows often sell out. While door sales are permitted, we cannot guarantee that seats will be available on the day of the show. Advanced tickets are strongly recommended.

Are seats reserved?

At this time, our theatre is general admission. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime (unless otherwised noted).

What if I am late to a performance?

Please arrived at least 10 minutes prior to showtime to ensure that you tickets will be honored. Entering the performance space after the show has started is disruptive to the performers and other audiences members, so latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management.

Is your theatre wheelchair accessible?

Yes, handicapped parking is available in the rear lot. Customers needing wheelchair access are escorted in through the back of our theatre. Please notify us if you need access so that we can best serve your needs. All restrooms and seating areas are also accessible.

Can I bring drinks and/or food?

Porch Light is happy to extend the option for our customers to bring their own bottle to our Main Stage performances. Outside food is not permitted in the theatre. Concession items (candy, chips, water and sodas) are available for purchase in our lobby.

Where do I park?

FREE parking is available in the front, rear and side of our building and all along South Broad Street. A convenience drop off area is located in the front of our building. Please DO NOT park across the street in the Volt Fitness lot.
